International Economic and Market Overview Jan 2015
January was an exciting month in the normally staid world of global central banking. On the 15th, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) unexpectedly abandoned its policy of capping the Swiss Franc at 1.20 to the Euro. Only a month ago they said that they would defend the peg with “utmost determination”. The move was a complete shock to the market and the reaction was unprecedented in the currency markets: the Sfr rose to as high as 0.85 against the euro (a 30% appreciation) before dropping back to current level of 0.98. 01_2015_CFAL_International_Economic_and_Market_Overview-1 Click here for full Weekly Market Recap

Quarterly International Economic and Market Overview Q4 2014
Going into Q4 2014, a period with historically positive stock performance, we removed the high-dividend tilt to our portfolios while increasing our currency-hedged exposure to Japanese equities. However, for the first time in over 3 years we have now moved equities to a slight underweight position. As the US economy has accelerated, so has the market P/E multiple expanded to uncomfortable levels as most ‘bears’ have capitulated. Currently priced, we have come to the decidedly nonconsensus view that US equities will disappoint this year. 12_2014_CFAL_Quarterly_International_Economic_and_Market_Overview-3 Click here for full Weekly Market Recap

CFAL Global Market Review Dec 2014
The S&P500 went out with a whimper in 2014, losing -0.4% as concerns about the profitability of oil companies in the face of the dramatic plunge in crude oil prices weighed on the market. Nevertheless, it was another good year for America’s stock markets: the S&P500 was positive on a total-return basis during 8 out of 12 months in 2014 while achieving 53 all-time record closing highs. 12_2014_CFAL_International_Economic_and_Market_Overview-1 Click here for full Weekly Market Recap
